Manovikas Special School

Manovikas special School for the mentally challenged was opened on 1 June 1998. Special education to the children with mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities is the most important activity of Manovikas. This aims at age appropriate developmental inputs to the affected children to make them skillful and independent in the areas of self care, social adaptive behavior, functional academics, prevocational skills and recreation. Qualified special educators and staff provide special training from preprimary to prevocational standards using special education techniques and materials in special class rooms. Appropriate combination of individual and group activities as well as indoor and outdoor activities is applied for the training. Art, craft, music, dance, games, sports, exposure outings, festivals celebrations, participation in sports and cultural activities at different levels, integration with non disabled children etc. are included in training programme. The present strength of this special school is 78. A residential hostel is attached to the school in which there are about 45 differently abled children resides.
